On March 3, 2020, a tweet circulated that stated “[Michael] Bloomberg spent $500 million on ads. The US population is 327 million. He could have given each American $1 million and still had money left over.” This was referenced and repeated on March 5th on MSNBC. Both claims of the population of the United States and the amount of money spent on advertisements are true. However, the math doesn’t work out – $500 million divided among $327 million is approximately $1.50, not $1 million.

Verdict: False
