CHS began operations as a traditional group purchasing organization 25 years ago. Ten years ago, CHS formed an alliance with other regional group purchasing organizations to own and develop a national group. That structure, National Purchasing Alliance, is owned equally by CHS and four other groups. Seven years ago, the organization established a portfolio of contracts applicable to all providers across the continuum of care. Group purchasing provides approximately $75 million in purchasing volume annually.
