Sentara is a not-for-profit, regional health management organization that provides health care services and health coverage in southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. The organization is directed by a 15-member board of directors. The organization comprises four hospitals, nine skilled nursing and assisted living centers, 20 health care centers, an integrated outpatient health care campus, home health care services, ground and air medical transport services, mobile diagnostic vans, fitness facility, community health education programs, and other services. A merger with Tidewater Health Care in Virginia Beach is pending.
